Fed officials signaled a more hawkish policy path while ADP employment came in well below expectations, leaving markets caught between slower growth and persistent inflation pressure. Tech signals centered on Google AI leadership changes, divergent U.S. after-hours earnings reactions and new AI agent products from Meta and Cloudflare. In crypto, BTC on-chain indicators still point to weak sentiment, but whale accumulation, Ethereum’s zero-issuance proposal, Circle Arc’s validator lineup and stronger precious metals shaped the main morning trading cues.
1. Fed Hike Expectations Rise as ADP Adds Only 44K Jobs
Fed Governor Cook said she is ready to take further action if inflation does not cool, while Minneapolis Fed President Kashkari said it is time to begin raising rates slowly. Fed funds futures now imply a 46% probability of a September hike. ADP data showed private payrolls rose by only 44,000 in July, below the 68,000 expected, while wage inflation also moved higher. Softer employment and tighter policy signals are moving together, leaving risk assets and crypto exposed to policy uncertainty as the U.S. 10-year yield holds near 4.61%.

2. Google AI Leadership Changes Send Shares Down 4%
Google Chief Scientist Jeff Dean is leaving after 27 years to co-found Discovery Loop, focused on automated machine learning research. Later the same day, DeepMind CEO Demis Hassabis stepped down to become Alphabet Chief Scientist, while CTO Koray Kavukcuoglu took over DeepMind and will report directly to Sundar Pichai. Google shares fell 4% after hours, as core AI talent movement and organizational changes raised questions about continuity in big-tech AI strategy.

3. U.S. Earnings Diverge as AI Storage and Platform Stocks Face Verification
After the U.S. close on August 5, earnings reactions diverged across technology and platform names. Sandisk reported fiscal Q4 results, with full-year revenue up 175% and data-center revenue up 437%, plus an additional $14 billion buyback authorization. Western Digital also reported fiscal Q4 results, with revenue up 44% year over year and a fiscal Q1 2027 revenue midpoint near $4.1 billion. Despite strong headline data, SNDK and WDC traded cautiously, showing that AI storage names have moved from demand discovery into expectation delivery. In consumer platforms, DoorDash Q2 total orders rose 27% and revenue rose 36%, with a $5 billion buyback authorization, while eBay Q2 revenue rose 15% and advertising revenue rose 25%. AppLovin’s larger after-hours move showed that AI advertising-platform valuations remain highly sensitive to guidance and margin signals.

4. Meta Launches AI Coding Agent as Cloudflare Adds AI Wallets
Meta launched Muse Code, a terminal-based AI coding agent priced below Anthropic Claude Code and OpenAI Codex, initially supporting macOS and Linux. Cloudflare also introduced Cloudflare OS, an open-source AI agent platform with programmable wallets that allow agents to pay for APIs and content through the x402 protocol, with stablecoin payments planned. AI agents are moving from developer tools into settlement-capable economic actors, which could map more directly to smart-contract platforms such as ETH and SOL.

5. BTC On-Chain Indicators Stay Weak as Whales Accumulate
Glassnode data showed 45 BTC price indicators entering the longest weak phase since the FTX event, with the cycle-position heatmap mostly blue through 2026. At the same time, CryptoQuant observed continued whale accumulation and said the bear-market phase may be close to ending. The Crypto Fear & Greed Index fell to 25, showing a clear split between retail risk aversion and large-address accumulation.

6. AI Speeds Up Vulnerability Discovery as Coldcard Loss Nears $130M
Ledger cautioned that AI is accelerating the discovery and exploitation of wallet-device vulnerabilities. A Coldcard pseudo-randomness flaw was used by at least 15 addresses, involving 4,585 cold-storage addresses and 1,367 BTC, worth nearly $130 million. Separately, a Bitcoin bridge shut down after AI identified a code vulnerability too quickly. Wallet security, seed generation, device code audits and asset migration processes are becoming key variables for BTC self-custody confidence.

7. Circle Names Arc Validators Including Visa and BlackRock
Circle announced 11 founding validators for Arc, its own Layer 1 blockchain, including BlackRock, Visa, Mastercard, DTCC, Galaxy, ICE and Standard Chartered. Arc’s public testnet is scheduled for September 16. USDC circulation reached $73.3 billion at quarter end, up 19% sequentially, while on-chain transaction volume reached $14.8 trillion, up 151%. Although Circle Q2 revenue missed Wall Street expectations, the validator lineup shows traditional finance moving deeper into on-chain infrastructure.

8. ETH Zero-Issuance Proposal Would Halt Net Issuance at $112B Staked
Ethereum researchers proposed draft EIP-8361, which would gradually burn validator payouts as the staking ratio rises and bring net issuance to zero once staked ETH reaches $112 billion, or about 50% of total supply. If advanced, the proposal would strengthen ETH’s supply-tightening narrative. Solana’s community also proposed raising daily SOL burns by more than 10x last week, showing both major L1s moving into stronger supply constraints.

9. Gold Breaks $4,350 as Global Equities Diverge
Spot gold rose 1.2% to $4,356.9, a six-week high, while silver gained 0.9% to $62.85. Weak ADP employment data and higher hike expectations continued to support defensive allocation. Europe’s Stoxx 600 set a record high, while the S&P 500 slipped 0.17% to 7,723 and the Nasdaq fell 0.83% to 29,487. BTC traded at $64,578 and diverged from gold, showing that precious metals and crypto are not currently sharing the same defensive-pricing logic.
